Welcome, Kalin!

Kalin grew up in Portland before heading out east to attend Whitman College. There, he pursued a wide variety of interests including astrophysics, environmental studies and politics. His academic and extracurricular pursuits were spurred by his passion to engage with large-scale environmental problems–an interest that he still holds today.

After a year of AmeriCorps in New Jersey, Kalin made the move back to Portland where he started working with the public involvement firm, JLA. He quickly developed a focus in graphic design and digital engagement and worked to develop new ways to involve the public in policy making processes. He’s excited to bring his digital design experience to a new and exciting category of work at Fat Pencil.

When not at work, Kalin is probably outside. Whether it’s cross country skiing in the winter, riding his bike, hiking a section of the PCT, or enjoying his garden with family in the summer, Kalin loves to spend time outside of the office relaxing in nature.
