Welcome, Dash!

Dash grew up in Southwest Portland, attending an alternative school on an old horse farm with a 500-acre forest playground and goats. Naturally, this led him to study Film and East Asian Studies at Oberlin College, where he immersed himself in a vibrant, experimental creative scene.

Post-college, Dash moved to New York City, carving out a career in production design, crafting show booths, sets, and graphic props for film and TV. He also brings a wealth of experience in motion graphics, having spent over seven years working on House Hunters International, animating maps and globes.

At Fat Pencil, he's excited to dive back into SketchUp and looks forward to working on real-world, high impact projects.

When left to his own devices, Dash enjoys cooking with his wife, playing racquetball, gardening, and spending time with family. He’s also an active participant in the motion graphics community, regularly attending industry meetups.

And I’d be remiss not to mention Dash’s best friend, Walnut—a five-year-old lab-hound mix who, after years as Dash’s constant companion during remote work, is undoubtedly confused by Dash’s return to an in-person workspace.

On repeat recently: “Stop Making Sense” by The Talking Heads, Wand (band), “99 Percent Invisible” podcast, “Search Engine” podcast, and “Volts” (a newsletter, podcast, & community focused on the technology, politics, and policy of decarbonization).
