Joshua Cohen is a Principal at Fat Pencil Studio
On October 28th, 2011 Fat Pencil Studio was a first-time exhibitor at the Oregon Paralegal Association (OPA) annual meeting in Portland. We were a young company offering a service (visual storytelling) that many legal professionals had never considered. We needed to show (not tell) people about our work, and OPA members welcomed us with a great deal of interest. So we kept coming back every year, and even hosted an educational happy hour event for paralegals, to practice different techniques for making timelines.
In cases with a lot of discovery and many exhibits to coordinate, we often end up working most closely with the paralegals on the team. Here are just a few of the projects we've done over the years with Oregon paralegals:
-
Fuel Tank Rupture
The rear-mounted fuel tank of a lifted vehicle ruptures and bursts into flame after being rear-ended by an SUV.
-
Morrison Bridge Verdict
All parties ruled negligent in the failure of the Morrison Bridge deck, but County is awarded money to pursue a new fix.
-
A Dangerous Work Zone
3D visualization highlights the poor planning that put highway construction workers in a vulnerable situation.
-
Tobacco Inspections
The State of Oregon used data visualization to show the extent of its efforts to curtail the black market cigarette market.
-
Police Protest
How we used video footage to investigate the circumstances of an arrest and then explain the story to a jury
-
Forklift Fiasco
An employee alleges age discrimination after being terminated for making a careless warehouse error.
Fat Pencil Studio is honored to be recognized for the second time as OPA Legal Service Provider of the year, and we look forward to continuing this partnership far into the future.
